Roger Evans visited Buckingham Palace in late November to be presented with his OBE, for services to the dairy industry, by HRH The Prince of Wales. And he says that the trip to London, with his wife Ann, son David, and daughter Sally, was truly memorable.
“It didn’t really sink in until the next day. It was all very surreal, but a huge honour,” he says. “I was a bit awestruck at the Palace, but it was exciting to meet Prince Charles. He expressed an interest in dairying and said that UK producers were ‘underestimated’ by wider society. I think I certainly got his seal of approval.”
He added that the day was made even more special thanks to a particularly helpful Palace page, Helen Graham, who, coincidentally, comes from a dairying family. Her parents run a 180-cow herd near Carlisle.
